Request Bail Support

01.

Sign Assignment of Bail

An assignment of bail form must be signed by the person who we are paying bail for. Under Minnesota law, bail money becomes the property of the person it is paid for. This form gives the court permission to return that money to the People’s Bail Fund. In order to continue our work, we need the bail money we pay to come back to us when someone returns to court and their case ends.

02.

Submit Referral

We have done our best to make the referral process as simple as possible, but we do need a bit of information to determine if we can pay bail for someone.

Note that at this time, we are only paying bail for misdemeanor cases in Hennepin County. If you’d like to see us expand, please donate so we can!

03.

Wait for a Response

We will get to work determining if we are able to post bail. We do our best to get back to every referral within 1 business day.

Release!

If we’re able to post bail, we will let you know when we have posted. It can take a few hours for people to be released after bail is paid but they should get out the day we post.

We ask that you do everything you can to ensure your client or loved one gets back to court. This is important so that they don’t end up back in jail and so that the money we posted can be used to help someone else. When people miss court, the bail in their case is forfeited. When they return to court, the money gets returned to the People’s Bail Fund to be used to free more people.
